Our Plastic Surgery Services
Epsomedical is a leading provider of dermatology services in mid Surrey, with particular focus on suspected skin cancers. All dermatological conditions can be referred. We triage these between general dermatology and skin lesions.
The skin lesions service is provided by a combination of dermatologists and plastic surgeons and patients may be triaged to either according to symptoms and availability. The specialists will inspect the notified lesion and explore for any others. Where malignancy is thought possible, the specialist will list for treatment or request a biopsy.
Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board, our lead commissioner, may not pay for removal of lesions assumed to be benign unless funding criteria are met. If malignancy is excluded by the specialist, we may not be able to remove the lesion as an NHS funded procedure, except by use of cryotherapy. In exceptional cases, an individual funding request can be made to the commissioner.
The skin lesions service is provided in collaboration with GESH, and our clinicians participate in the Trusts’ multidisciplinary team meetings for cancers. We accept referrals for Urgent Suspected Cancer. Patients found to have a malignancy which is capable of spreading will be managed by us under NHS cancer pathway guidelines until fit for discharge.
