Our Hand Surgery Services

Epsomedical’s hand surgery service is provided by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in nerve entrapment and other soft tissue procedures including carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s contracture, as well as arthritis, ganglions and lesions. In addition, our surgeon will carry out some bony procedures such as trapeziectomies and trapezoidectomies. Those requiring more invasive surgery will be transferred another hospital following consultation with the patient. This, however, is very unusual.

Follow up physiotherapy will be provided by the relevant community health services contractor, which is Surrey Downs Health and Care for patients from Surrey Heartlands.

The NHS is increasingly restricting access to surgery. Patients with symptoms warranting referral to our Hands service will normally require to be sent initially to a physiotherapy-led MSK service run by the ICB to exhaust any conservative treatment options. After referral to our units, surgery will be dependent on the patient’s symptoms meeting thresholds specified by the local NHS.
