Our Colorectal & Lower GI Services

Epsomedical's colorectal & lower GI service is supported by endoscopy and theatre facilities at Epsom and Cobham. We accept referrals for rectal bleeding, bowel disorders, haemorrhoids, anal fissures, abdominal pain and other common symptoms. Patient with ‘Urgent Suspected Cancer’ should not be sent to Epsomedical. Where cancer is discovered as a result of investigations we carry out, patients will be transferred on to the cancer centre of their choosing.

Patients requiring colonoscopy may be triaged directly to theatre by our lead endoscopist to avoid unnecessary delays via outpatients. Those listed from outpatients will always be scoped within 6 weeks. Our endoscopists may also carry out any necessary haemorrhoid treatments at the same time. Both units are JAG accredited, meaning we comply with the very highest standards for endoscopy pathway, procedure and reporting management.

Patients requiring anal surgery can be listed at our own units, with lists carried out by consultant colorectal surgeons. Those requiring more invasive surgery will be transferred for the procedure to one of the local inpatient hospitals, according to patient choice.

The service overlaps with our gastroenterology service and is overseen by an Endoscopy Users Group which meets regularly to review service quality data.
